Egypt Allocates EGP 832.3 Billion for Social Protection in 2026/27 Budget, Marking 12% Annual Growth
Egypt’s Minister of Finance, Ahmed Kouchouk, announced today that the upcoming 2026/2027 fiscal budget is designed as a "safety net" for the nation’s most vulnerable groups. The government has allocated EGP 832.3 billion for subsidies and social protection programs, representing a 12% annual increase. During a press conference, Kouchouk emphasized that these measures aim to shield citizens from global inflationary pressures while reinforcing the pillars of social justice.
A key pillar of the new budget includes EGP 175.3 billion dedicated to food subsidies, benefiting over 60 million citizens with a 10% year-on-year growth. Furthermore, EGP 55.3 billion has been earmarked for the "Takaful and Karama" cash transfer program, alongside social security and child pensions. These initiatives are set to support more than 4.7 million families, including rural community leaders, ensuring that the fruits of economic reform reach every household in Egypt.
