National Bank of Egypt Scales Sustainable Operations to Drive Energy Efficiency and Resource Conservation

The National Bank of Egypt (NBE) has reinforced its commitment to the nation’s environmental goals by expanding its integrated energy and resource conservation initiatives. Mohamed El-Etreby, CEO of NBE, emphasized that these measures are central to the bank’s strategy to preserve natural resources and mitigate the impact of global energy price volatility. By adopting smart tech solutions and high-efficiency operational standards, Egypt’s largest bank is positioning itself as a regional leader in ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) banking.

The bank’s sustainability roadmap includes the operation of over 41 solar-powered branches and a massive 500 kWh solar plant at its electronic archives in 10th of Ramadan City. Yahya Abou El-Fotouh, Vice CEO, noted that the initiative focuses on optimizing electricity and fuel consumption across all administrative buildings without compromising service quality. These efforts not only support Egypt’s transition to a green economy but also significantly reduce the bank’s carbon footprint, aligning corporate growth with environmental stewardship.
