Huawei, LG, and Nokia Anchor New Sisvel Patent Pool for Cellular POS Technology
In a landmark move for the global payments industry, Huawei, LG Electronics, and Nokia have been announced as founding licensors in a new Point of Sale (POS) patent pool launched by Sisvel. This collaborative program covers essential cellular communication patents ranging from 2G to 5G, streamlining the licensing process for manufacturers of connected POS devices.
By making their Standard Essential Patents (SEPs) available through this centralized pool, the founding members aim to foster a transparent and predictable licensing environment. According to Sven Törringer, the program’s director, cellular technology has revolutionized the payment experience for both merchants and consumers. The program offers early participation incentives until mid-May, inviting other cellular patent holders to join an ecosystem built on FRAND (Fair, Reasonable, and Non-Discriminatory) terms to ensure global interoperability and innovation.
