The Minister of Housing discusses procedures and mechanisms for offering housing units under the rental system.

Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, Randa El-Menshawy, held a meeting to follow up on the procedures implemented to carry out the directives of the political leadership to offer rental housing units. This initiative aims to strengthen the social safety net and provide suitable housing for various segments of the population. The meeting was attended by Dr. Walid Abbas, Deputy Minister of Housing for Urban Communities, along with officials from the Ministry, the New Urban Communities Authority, and the CEO of the Social Housing and Mortgage Finance Support Fund.

Minister El-Menshawy opened the meeting by emphasizing the state's strong commitment to providing adequate housing. She noted that offering rental units is a key component in meeting the needs of citizens, particularly those with limited means, and alleviating their financial burdens.

The meeting addressed a report outlining several alternatives regarding the mechanisms for implementing and offering rental units, as well as the areas where these units will be offered. In this regard, Minister Randa El-Menshawy directed a study of the best mechanisms for implementing this approach, emphasizing the need to precisely identify the target groups, establish clear regulations, and explore diverse rental models to suit citizens' needs, including subsidized rentals and rent-to-own options. She stressed the importance of ensuring the sustainability of these projects and offering units in prime locations with comprehensive services to attract residents to these cities.

During the meeting, the Minister also reviewed the status of citizen registration on the Egypt Digital Platform, as part of completing the comprehensive database of cases subject to the old rent law. Applications will be accepted until April 12, 2026.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Minister of Housing directed the swift preparation of a comprehensive plan outlining the number of units proposed, implementation and financing mechanisms, and a timeline. She emphasized the necessity of full coordination among all relevant stakeholders to ensure the objectives are achieved as quickly as possible.
