Mubadala Exits CoolIT Systems Stake in $4.75 Billion Deal Led by KKR

Mubadala Investment Company has signed a definitive agreement to sell its minority stake in CoolIT Systems, a global leader in liquid cooling solutions for data centers, to Ecolab, as part of a $4.75 billion transaction led by KKR.

Mubadala initially invested in CoolIT Systems in 2023 alongside KKR through its Global Impact Fund II, supporting the company’s growth in sustainable and high-efficiency cooling technologies.

CoolIT Systems, which brings over 25 years of expertise, specializes in designing and manufacturing advanced liquid cooling systems that enable scalable and energy-efficient data center operations. The company plays a critical role in supporting the rapid expansion of AI-driven computing infrastructure.

Traditional air-cooled data centers can consume up to 50% of a facility’s total energy, whereas liquid cooling technologies can reduce energy usage by 30–40%, while also minimizing water consumption through closed-loop systems.

Today, leading cloud providers and data center operators rely on CoolIT’s solutions to improve energy efficiency and support high-density AI workloads across more than 300 data centers worldwide.
