Venmo Enables Global Money Transfers Through PayPal Integration Across 90+ Markets
Venmo, a subsidiary of PayPal, has officially enabled global money transfers for the first time by integrating its platform with the PayPal network. This move allows users to send and receive funds with hundreds of millions of users across more than 90 markets worldwide.
Through this integration, Venmo users can now transfer money directly to PayPal users—and vice versa—without requiring both parties to use the same application. The initiative aims to simplify peer-to-peer payments and reduce reliance on multiple apps for completing transactions.
This development marks a significant step in Venmo’s expansion beyond the U.S. market, leveraging PayPal’s global infrastructure to deliver fast and seamless international transfer services.
The new system enables transactions using only a phone number, eliminating the need for complex banking details. Users can locate recipients via their phone numbers, view real-time currency conversions, and attach notes to payments.
Diego Scotti, General Manager of PayPal’s Consumer Group, stated that the integration is designed to remove barriers between users and provide a secure, frictionless global transfer experience—allowing individuals to transact using their preferred platform.
The service maintains Venmo’s user-friendly interface while ensuring full transparency on exchange rates and fees before completing transactions. Recipients also receive detailed information, including sender identity, transferred amount, currency, and payment notes.
To encourage adoption, Venmo announced a temporary waiver on international transfer fees until August 24, 2026, noting that availability may vary across PayPal-supported markets.
This expansion comes amid growing demand for cross-border payment solutions. Survey data from Venmo revealed that 59% of users prefer a single platform for global transfers, while 49% reported using multiple apps to complete transactions. Additionally, 30% admitted missing payments due to the lack of a suitable app—rising to 52% among younger users.
The data also showed that 41% of Americans send money internationally, with 42% of younger users doing so on a monthly basis. Meanwhile, 77% of individuals who have lived or traveled abroad emphasized the importance of using the same payment app globally—reaching 88% among millennials.
By integrating their platforms, Venmo and PayPal aim to strengthen their position as one of the largest global peer-to-peer payment networks, offering a unified and seamless cross-border payment experience.
