Perplexity Launches “Personal Computer,” a Cloud AI Agent Designed to Manage Digital Workflows on macOS

U.S.-based company Perplexity has announced the launch of a new system called “Personal Computer,” a cloud-based artificial intelligence agent designed to function as a fully integrated digital assistant capable of managing tasks and interacting directly with applications on macOS.

The move reflects a broader shift toward transforming artificial intelligence from a supporting tool into a full operational platform for digital work.

The system operates through a dedicated Mac mini device that runs continuously around the clock. It is connected to the user’s local applications and the company’s secure servers, allowing the AI agent to understand user objectives and execute tasks automatically without direct user intervention.

“Personal Computer” functions as a digital control hub accessible from any device and location. The AI agent can perform a wide range of activities, including conducting online research, analyzing data, operating various tools, and managing workflows across connected applications.

The system is powered by a multi-model architecture incorporating around 20 advanced AI models, enabling it to analyze information, make decisions, and execute actions in a largely autonomous manner. It also has internet access and can use various tools to complete assigned tasks.

According to the company’s vision, artificial intelligence is no longer just a tool inside the computer—it can effectively become the computer itself, understanding user goals and leveraging applications and data to carry out work automatically.

The platform also allows users to connect the system to widely used business platforms such as Salesforce, HubSpot, and Snowflake through dedicated application connectors, enabling AI integration with customer management systems, data analytics tools, and enterprise workflows.

To improve usability in corporate environments, the company also introduced a new enterprise-focused browser called Comet Enterprise, designed to manage digital tasks through AI. The browser is built on the premise that most enterprise work is now conducted online.

Security and Competition

The system includes several safety features designed to limit unexpected behavior from the AI agent. These include a Kill Switch that allows users to immediately shut down the system in case of malfunction, as well as audit logs that track all actions performed by the AI.

The launch comes as competition intensifies in the field of personal AI agents, with similar tools emerging such as OpenClaw, which enables users to run AI agents on Mac mini devices to autonomously perform digital tasks.

Perplexity says the adoption of such systems could significantly transform organizational productivity. The company noted that using the tool internally helped reduce operational costs by about $1.6 million, while enabling teams to complete work equivalent to more than three years of output in just four weeks.

The development reflects a rapidly growing trend in the technology industry toward autonomous AI agents—systems capable of executing tasks and making digital decisions with minimal human intervention. Such technologies could reshape how computers and applications are used in workplace environments in the coming years.
