Egyptian Minister: Current Fuel Price Hike Is Exceptional, Linked to Regional Conflict
Dr. Dhiya Rashwan, Egypt’s Minister of State for Media, stated that the government had previously decided not to increase fuel prices for an entire year. He emphasized that the current hike is exceptional, driven by the ongoing U.S.-Israel-Iran conflict, and noted that prices will be reviewed once the conflict ends.
Rashwan added that President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has repeatedly affirmed that the Egyptian people are the nation’s true heroes, highlighting that the state always places citizens at the forefront of its priorities.
He also pointed out that Egypt has faced numerous challenges since 2014, including the fight against terrorism, the COVID-19 pandemic, the Russia-Ukraine war, the Gaza conflict, and now the U.S.-Israel-Iran war, along with various geopolitical tensions. He stressed that all these events have had significant impacts on Egypt.
Rashwan further noted that these developments have affected the national economy, describing the current crisis as one of the most severe in the region. He added that strict monitoring is in place to prevent price hikes and monopolistic practices by merchants.
