Egyptian Food Bank Expands Daily Food Surplus Donation Initiative in Partnership with Majid Al Futtaim

The Egyptian Food Bank, the region’s first development-focused organization providing safe and nutritious food to the most vulnerable, announced the expansion of its daily food surplus donation initiative in collaboration with Majid Al Futtaim, the exclusive operator of Carrefour in Egypt. The initiative will now include additional stores alongside the existing locations, as part of ongoing efforts to reduce food waste and support needy families and communities.

The program aims to strengthen sustainable partnerships between the private sector and civil society by minimizing food waste, maximizing available resources, and providing safe and balanced nutrition to vulnerable populations throughout the year.

The newly added stores include Carrefour Mall of Egypt and Carrefour Dandy Mall, joining existing outlets at Carrefour City Centre Maadi and Carrefour City Centre Almaza.

Surplus edible food from these stores is collected daily and distributed under strict food safety standards. Donations cover a variety of products, including baked goods, sweets, fresh vegetables, rice, lentils, and pasta.

This expansion builds on a successful strategic partnership between the Egyptian Food Bank and Majid Al Futtaim over the past years, which has significantly supported priority families, particularly during last year’s Ramadan.

During Ramadan, Carrefour operated a daily distribution of 200 meals, a practice that will continue throughout Ramadan 2026. Majid Al Futtaim will sponsor three Ramadan tents in Mansoura, Sharkia, and Fayoum, providing approximately 1,500 Iftar meals daily, supporting the “Iftar Al-Sa’im” program and extending community outreach to the most deserving.

Mohsen Sarhan, CEO of the Egyptian Food Bank, commented: “We are delighted to collaborate with Majid Al Futtaim on this initiative, which underscores the vital role of the private sector in charitable activities, especially in ensuring that the most vulnerable families and individuals have access to essential resources.”
