Yotta to Build $2 Billion AI Data Center in India Powered by Nvidia Chips

India’s Yotta Data Services is preparing to establish a $2 billion artificial intelligence data center powered by high-performance chips from Nvidia, in a strategic move aimed at strengthening the country’s advanced computing infrastructure and meeting surging demand for GPUs, according to CNBC.

The project comes amid intensifying competition among domestic and global AI firms to develop sovereign and nationally aligned AI models. Yotta currently controls between 60% and 70% of India’s total GPU capacity, at a time when supply remains constrained relative to accelerating demand. The company is seeking to raise between $1.2 billion and $1.5 billion in a pre-IPO funding round, with plans to go public within the next 12 months.

India’s total data center capacity is projected to reach 1.93 gigawatts by 2025, nearly doubling to 4 gigawatts by 2028, supported by cumulative investments estimated at $277 billion over five to seven years — the majority directed toward expanding AI-focused infrastructure.

As part of this broader expansion, Indian startups such as Sarvam AI have begun rolling out limited versions of their AI models, including the “Indus” chatbot. The platform currently operates with restricted computing capacity but is expected to scale gradually as demand grows, leveraging Nvidia GPUs hosted within Yotta’s facilities.
