Beko Smart Living Index Shows Growing Adoption of Smart and Energy-Efficient Appliances Among Egyptian Consumers
Beko, the leading global home appliance company, has released Egypt-specific findings from its global Smart Living Index (SLI), indicating a growing shift among Egyptian consumers toward smart and energy-efficient home appliances, driven by increased awareness of appliance efficiency, long-term value, and household resource management.
The Smart Living Index is one of the largest global studies examining how consumer attitudes toward sustainability, energy use, and smart appliance technologies are evolving. The research surveyed thousands of consumers across 12 markets, including Egypt, and assessed how households are responding to changing economic conditions by adjusting purchasing behavior and daily appliance usage.
According to the study, Egyptian consumers demonstrate a high level of awareness regarding appliance running costs and comparatively strong confidence in smart and AI-enabled home technologies. More than 50% of respondents in Egypt state that they completely trust AI-powered home appliances, placing Egypt among the markets with the highest reported trust in smart technologies, while 66% of dishwasher users say they value smart living features, a higher level than that recorded in several European markets. Interestingly, 83% of surveyed consumers in Egypt report awareness of the running costs of tumble dryers.
The findings show that in markets where consumers actively monitor energy consumption, adoption of smart appliance features is higher. In Egypt, smart living is increasingly viewed as a practical solution that supports efficient household management, predictable budgeting, and everyday convenience.
Commenting on the findings, Hakan Bulgurlu, Chief Executive Officer at Beko, said that the Smart Living Index demonstrates a clear shift toward more informed and value-driven household decisions as consumers navigate rising cost pressures. He emphasized that transparency, durability, and measurable efficiency are increasingly important to consumers and that the industry has an important role to play in supporting households as they seek long-term value from their appliance investments.
Commenting on the results of the index, Umit Gunel, General Manager of Beko Egypt and Regional Director of Beko North Africa, said: "The Smart Living Index shows that Egyptian consumers are making increasingly informed choices when it comes to home solutions. Sustainability has become an economic strategy in addressing the cost of living. Egypt stands out as a practical example of smart living, inspiring us to deliver reliable, energy-efficient solutions produced locally to global standards. With Egyptians’ trust in AI, we remain focused onusing smart appliances to reduce energy use and costs, supporting a sustainable and convenient lifestyle for families without increasing household costs."
The Beko Smart Living Index is a global research initiative designed to provide insights into how financial considerations, technological adoption, and sustainability priorities shape household behavior. The study was conducted independently by J.L. Partners using representative demographic quotas to ensure accuracy across all surveyed markets.
The Smart Living Index findings also align with Egypt’s broader national direction toward sustainability, digitization and the adoption of smart solutions across sectors. As households increasingly engage with connected technologies, smart home appliances can contribute to this transition by enabling more efficient resource use and supporting data-driven decision-making at the household level, complementing the state’s long-term vision for digital transformation and sustainable development.
