Anthropic Nears $20 Billion Funding Round, Boosting Valuation to $350 Billion
AI startup Anthropic is reportedly closing in on a massive $20 billion funding round, pushing the company’s valuation to approximately $350 billion amid strong investor demand that may double its initially planned raise.
The round comes less than five months after Anthropic raised $13 billion, aiming to support its rapid expansion in the face of rising competition and high computing costs. Leading venture and growth investors expected to participate include Altimeter Capital Management, Sequoia Capital, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Menlo Ventures, Coatue Management, Iconiq Capital, as well as the Singapore sovereign wealth fund. A significant portion of the funding is anticipated to come from strategic partners Nvidia and Microsoft.
Anthropic has gained attention with the launch of programming agents that enhance developer productivity and specialized models for legal and business research, sparking concerns among traditional data companies over potential AI disruption.
The funding round underscores the accelerating investment race in the AI sector, as competitors like OpenAI prepare for a potential $100 billion raise, and xAI, affiliated with SpaceX, enters public markets. The influx of capital reflects a global scramble among AI leaders to secure resources for advanced model development and market dominance.
