Tripartite Cooperation Protocol Signed to Promote Cooperative Housing and Sustainable Urban Development in Africa and Asia
Major General Engineer Walid El-Baroudi, President of the African Organization for Housing Cooperatives and Head of the General Authority for Building and Housing Cooperatives, signed a tripartite cooperation protocol with Ambassador Mohamed Al-Orabi, President of the Afro-Asian Peoples’ Solidarity Organization, and Engineer Mohamed Tharwat, Head of the Cooperative Housing Committee at the Afro-Asian General Union of Investors and Assistant President of the Organization for Investment.
The agreement aims to support cooperative housing projects and enhance sustainable urban development across Africa and Asia, while leveraging Egypt’s pioneering experience in the field of cooperative housing.
The protocol reflects a shared vision focused on providing safe and affordable housing without imposing additional burdens on state budgets, through empowering civil society, attracting investments, and building development partnerships based on the cooperative model.
Major General El-Baroudi emphasized that the agreement establishes a practical framework for exchanging engineering and administrative expertise, and for implementing integrated cooperative housing projects tailored to the needs of diverse communities.
“The African Organization possesses an extensive database on housing needs across its member states,” El-Baroudi said. “Through this cooperation, we will direct investments toward the most underserved areas, while adhering to modern and sustainable urban development standards.”
He added that the next phase will include capacity-building and training programs, as well as organizing international conferences and events to showcase successful experiences and facilitate knowledge exchange among participating parties.
Following the signing ceremony, Ambassador Mohamed Al-Orabi presented Major General El-Baroudi with the shield of the Afro-Asian Peoples’ Solidarity Organization and the Afro-Asian General Union of Investors, in recognition of his efforts to advance development and support the cooperative housing movement in Egypt and Africa.
