stc Wins $800 Million “Silklink” Project to Build Syria’s Digital Connectivity Infrastructure

Saudi Telecom Company (stc) announced that it has been awarded the implementation of a major telecommunications infrastructure project in partnership with the Syrian Sovereign Fund, under the name “Silklink,” aimed at strengthening Syria’s digital network and enhancing its regional and international connectivity.

The announcement follows stc’s victory in a competitive bidding process that attracted participation from most leading regional telecommunications companies.

The total value of the project is estimated at approximately SAR 3 billion. Silklink will include the development of a comprehensive infrastructure featuring more than 4,500 kilometers of fiber-optic networks, as well as the establishment of data centers and international submarine cable landing stations.

The project is designed to significantly increase data transmission capacity and improve network reliability, enabling telecom operators in Syria and the wider region to deliver advanced services such as cloud computing, Internet of Things (IoT) solutions, and enhanced internet quality, while boosting the efficiency of digital infrastructure.

Silklink will be implemented through a strategic partnership structure in which stc holds a 75% stake, while the Syrian Sovereign Fund owns 25%. The initiative aligns with stc’s strategy to expand cross-border digital investments and strengthen connectivity between Arab, Asian, and European markets.
