Egypt Launches New National Spectrum Management Strategy to Boost Telecom Infrastructure

In the presence of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Egypt’s National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) has officially launched its new National Radio Spectrum Management Strategy during an event held at Prince Mohamed Ali Palace in Shubra.

The launch was attended by Dr. Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology and Chairman of the NTRA, alongside representatives of the four telecom operators active in the Egyptian market.

The new strategy is part of the government’s broader efforts to regulate and manage radio spectrum more efficiently, with the aim of strengthening the telecommunications infrastructure, enhancing market competitiveness, and supporting the adoption of advanced digital technologies in line with Egypt’s digital transformation and sustainable development goals.

Earlier in mid-December, Mohamed Ibrahim, the official spokesperson for the NTRA, announced the allocation of new spectrum licenses to Egypt’s four mobile operators—Telecom Egypt (WE), Orange, e& Egypt, and Vodafone—totaling approximately 420 MHz. This allocation is nearly equivalent to the total spectrum assigned to telecom companies over the past 27 years.

Ibrahim noted that investments linked to the new spectrum exceed $3 billion, with the majority expected to be directed toward the rollout of 5G services, while granting operators full technical flexibility to deploy the frequencies according to their operational plans.
