Over 30 Companies Participate in Egypt’s First Official Electronic Auction for Premium Short Codes
The National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) has witnessed strong market interest in Egypt’s first official electronic auction for premium short codes, attracting participation from more than 30 major companies and institutions operating across the Egyptian market.
The auction resulted in the allocation of several highly sought-after short codes, including 999, 777, 225, and 777000, at competitive values that reflect their significant marketing potential and ability to enhance customer accessibility to services. The process was conducted through a transparent and structured electronic auction mechanism via NTRA’s official “Auctions” digital platform.
This milestone comes as part of NTRA’s ongoing commitment to applying best regulatory practices in managing national numbering resources, ensuring their optimal use in line with market needs and institutional requirements. The initiative also aligns with the Authority’s broader efforts to enhance communication efficiency, improve service quality, and reinforce Egypt’s position as a regional and international hub for contact center services.
The strong turnout from companies participating in the auction underscores the business community’s confidence in NTRA’s regulatory frameworks and digital governance mechanisms, which promote transparency, fair competition, and efficient allocation of digital resources.
It is worth noting that NTRA recently launched the Auctions platform as the first electronic platform of its kind in the Egyptian market, dedicated to offering premium and short contact numbers through competitive bidding. The platform enables companies of all sizes to compete for distinctive three- and six-digit short codes, supporting the development of customer service centers and enhancing corporate communication efficiency and brand visibility across various sectors.
The initiative also provides small and medium-sized enterprises with equitable access to premium numbering resources, contributing to improved customer engagement and strengthening institutional presence in an increasingly competitive digital landscape.
