German Economy Posts Stronger-Than-Expected Growth in Q4 2025
Germany’s economy recorded stronger growth in the final quarter of 2025 than previously estimated, according to revised official data.
The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) announced in Wiesbaden that gross domestic product (GDP) expanded by 0.3% in the fourth quarter, compared with the third quarter, up from an earlier estimate of 0.2%.
The office attributed the upward revision primarily to higher consumer spending and increased government expenditure, which provided a late-year boost to economic activity.
Destatis confirmed its earlier assessment for the full year, showing that the German economy grew by just 0.2% in 2025, narrowly sparing the country from a third consecutive year without growth.
Europe’s largest economy had previously entered recession in 2023, when GDP contracted by 0.9%, followed by another downturn in 2024, with a decline of 0.5%, underscoring the fragility of the recovery.
