G42, Cerebras Systems and MBZUAI Launch K2 Think V2, a Fully Open-Source Sovereign Reasoning Model
G42, Cerebras Systems, and the Institute of Foundation Models at Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) today announced the launch of the second release of the “K2 Think” model. The new advanced reasoning system, featuring 70 billion parameters, is built on K2-V2, the institute’s most powerful open-source foundation model in the advanced model category, specifically designed to support K2 Think.
The launch marks a significant milestone in the UAE’s journey toward technological sovereignty. While earlier versions of K2 Think were open and widely accessible, K2 Think V2 is the first model to be fully open-source across its entire architecture and lifecycle—from pre-training data and curation methods, through post-training and inference alignment, to evaluation—delivering an unprecedented level of transparency alongside high performance.
By upgrading the foundation model to K2-V2, the second release of K2 Think unlocks new levels of performance, openness, and independence, further strengthening the UAE’s position as a global leader in advanced artificial intelligence systems while maintaining full technological sovereignty and global accessibility.
The new release represents a fundamental shift in the design of open reasoning systems, evolving from a reasoning layer built on top of a foundation model into a reasoning-native system embedded directly within the model itself. Leveraging K2-V2’s long-context capabilities and fully transparent training process, K2 Think V2 operates as a fully integrated, sovereign, and end-to-end open-source model.
