Meta Suspends Teen Access to AI Characters Across Its Platforms Worldwide
Meta has announced the suspension of teenagers’ access to existing artificial intelligence characters across all its applications globally, as part of efforts to create a safer and more age-appropriate experience amid growing concerns over the protection of minors on digital platforms.
The company stated that the decision will begin to take effect over the coming weeks, during which teenagers will be unable to interact with AI characters until a new, dedicated version tailored specifically for them is completed.
Meta confirmed that the updated release will include enhanced parental control tools, granting parents greater oversight over how their children engage with artificial intelligence technologies. This move comes as part of the company’s broader strategy to strengthen digital safety standards for teens.
Previously, Meta revealed tools designed to disable private conversations between teenagers and AI characters; however, these features have not yet been officially launched.
The company also noted that AI experiences designed for teenagers will adhere to PG-13 content guidelines, aiming to limit exposure to inappropriate material. The announcement comes at a time when Meta faces increasing scrutiny from regulators and families regarding child safety across its platforms.
