Sequoia Capital Prepares Major Investment in AI Startup Anthropic
based Sequoia Capital, one of the world’s largest venture capital firms, is preparing to make a major investment in AI startup Anthropic, the developer of the chatbot Claude, as part of a new funding round expected to rank among the largest in artificial intelligence history.
Founded in 2021 by former OpenAI employees, Anthropic is seeking to raise at least $25 billion, at a valuation that could reach approximately $350 billion, reflecting rapid growth and strong global demand for generative AI solutions.
According to informed sources, Sequoia is expected to join a group of prominent investors in the round, including Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund GIC and U.S. investment firm Coatue Management, with each potentially committing around $1.5 billion.
Discussions regarding the structure of the round and final investment amounts are still ongoing, with possible adjustments before the anticipated closing in the coming weeks.
Earlier reports indicated that Anthropic was considering raising between $10 billion and $25 billion in a single round, while Microsoft and Nvidia had previously announced plans to jointly invest up to $15 billion in the company—highlighting intensifying competition among global technology giants to secure strategic positions in leading AI firms.
This strong investment momentum underscores Anthropic’s growing status as one of the most influential emerging players in the global AI race, as its technologies see increasing adoption across business, productivity, and digital services worldwide.
