Egypt’s Statistics Authority Urges Expanded Use of AI in Migration Management
Cairo — A recent study issued by Egypt’s Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) has recommended expanding the use of artificial intelligence technologies in the management of migration issues, drawing on leading international experiences and adopting best practices in digital governance aligned with Egypt’s institutional, legislative, and demographic context.
The recommendation was published in Issue No. 110 of the semiannual journal Population – Research and Studies, released on Saturday, January 17, 2026. The issue includes a series of analytical studies on population and development topics, including a featured paper titled “The Role of Artificial Intelligence in Managing Migration Issues.”
The study highlighted AI’s growing role as a transformative tool in migration and asylum management, citing its ability to improve the accuracy and speed of decision-making, enhance predictive analytics and future planning, and support big data analysis related to population mobility. Additional applications include biometric identification, smart border monitoring, and automated processing of migration applications.
According to the study, Egypt has made notable progress in artificial intelligence, particularly in digital governance and infrastructure, supported by the launch of the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy (2021–2025). This progress reflects increasing institutional readiness to deploy AI across critical sectors, especially in population and migration management.
The report also noted a global rise in human mobility, including voluntary migration linked to employment and education, as well as forced migration driven by conflicts, instability, and climate change, emphasizing the strong link between economic, environmental, and political factors and rising migration flows.
