Egypt Launches “Auctions” – First Online Platform for Premium Corporate Telecom Numbers
The National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) has announced the launch of “Auctions”, Egypt’s first online platform dedicated to offering a wide range of telecom services for major corporations and institutions. The platform aims to provide innovative technological and service solutions that enhance business operations, optimize call center efficiency, and improve customer service quality, ultimately boosting corporate profitability.
This initiative is part of NTRA’s strategy to position Egypt as a regional and global hub for call center services, supporting the country’s competitiveness in exporting digital services, particularly amid the remarkable growth of the telecommunications and IT sector over the past decade.
The platform will hold electronic auctions for special and short numbers, including three-digit numbers for large enterprises (e.g., 777, 666) and six-digit numbers for small and medium-sized businesses (e.g., 777666, 555777), allowing for tailored solutions across sectors. The first official auction will take place on 26 January 2026, with monthly auctions planned thereafter. Companies can register, participate, and acquire numbers entirely online, ensuring transparency and equal opportunities.
Yasmina Alaa, Executive Director of Regulatory and Economic Policies at NTRA, emphasized that while short and premium numbers are not a new concept, previous allocation methods lacked the organized, transparent auction mechanisms now implemented.
The platform also introduces innovative six-digit numbers with fixed first three digits and variable last three digits, making them easier to remember and more cost-effective than traditional sequential numbers. Auction prices start from approximately EGP 220,000–320,000, depending on the uniqueness and pattern of the number, with a participation deposit of 10% of the starting bid.
The platform’s launch follows extensive research identifying a gap between corporate demand for memorable numbers and previous allocation methods, highlighting the importance of short numbers in enhancing call center services and customer engagement. Currently, participation is limited to companies, with plans to consider additional user categories in the future.
NTRA invites all companies seeking to enhance their communication tools to register on the platform starting 14 January 2026 and complete the auction deposit by 21 January 2026, marking a significant step in supporting the private sector, advancing digital transformation, and contributing to Egypt Vision 2030 goals.
