Local Content Creators Are Challenging Hollywood, Say Global Experts at 1 Billion Followers Summit
Speakers at a session titled “Why Local Content Creators Will Outshine Hollywood” highlighted the rapid growth of local content creator hubs around the world, from New York to Accra and Dubai. These centers combine co-working spaces, business incubators, studios, and social clubs to form vibrant, interconnected communities.
The session was part of the fourth edition of the 1 Billion Followers Summit, the world’s largest global event focused on the creator economy, organized by the UAE Government Media Office. The summit, held over three days and concluding on January 11, 2026, took place at Emirates Towers, Dubai International Financial Centre, and the Museum of the Future, under the theme “Meaningful Content.”
Speakers emphasized that Hollywood is no longer the sole or dominant destination for content creation, as it has become less influential than in the past. They encouraged collaboration and shared opportunities between Hollywood and local creators.
John Savage, CEO of Africa Podcast Network, noted a significant shift in the content economy driven by AI and podcasting.
Bernard Kafui, CEO and co-founder of Jumbo Spaces, highlighted that communities are the true currency of content success, as audiences are the ones who engage with and monetize popular content.
Brett Dashivsky, founder of the Creator Economy Community in New York, added that content creation no longer requires Hollywood as long as creators receive the necessary support to develop their digital products.
The fourth edition of the summit features over 30,000 attendees, more than 15,000 creators and influencers, 500 speakers followed by 3.5 billion followers, 150 CEOs and global experts, and over 580 main sessions, roundtables, interactive discussions, and workshops.
