Rome, Italy – The Italian Antitrust Authority has officially closed its investigation into the Chinese AI model DeepSeek after receiving binding commitments from the operator to improve user warnings regarding AI “hallucinations.”

The probe, which began in June, addressed concerns that DeepSeek did not adequately alert users about the potential generation of inaccurate, misleading, or fabricated information, potentially leading to consumer confusion.

As part of the resolution, the developer has committed to a set of regulatory measures designed to enhance transparency. These include clearly communicating the risks associated with generative AI and making it easier for users to access disclosures about possible false or unreliable content.

The Italian authority emphasized that the new warnings will be more visible, faster, and easier to understand, helping protect consumers and raise awareness about the model’s limitations and operational mechanisms.

AI “hallucinations” occur when systems generate answers that appear plausible but lack factual basis or include false information—a significant challenge for advanced AI models globally.

This decision aligns with broader European efforts to enforce stricter AI regulations, ensuring developers comply with higher standards of transparency, safety, and consumer protection amid the rapid adoption of AI technologies across public and commercial sectors.
