Egypt Targets 10 Million Locally Manufactured Mobile Phones with 40% Local Value Added

Egypt’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology announced that 2025 marked a major turning point in the localization of the electronics industry, driven by expanded investments, higher domestic production, and stronger design and manufacturing capabilities.

In a statement, the ministry said that under the “Egypt Makes Electronics” initiative, the number of mobile phone brands manufacturing locally has risen to 15, with a combined maximum production capacity of 20 million units per year. Total investments in local mobile phone manufacturing are estimated at around USD 200 million.

The ministry revealed that locally manufactured mobile phones exceeded 10 million units in 2025, compared with 3.3 million units in 2024, representing nearly threefold growth in a single year. Local value added in mobile phone manufacturing has surpassed 40% of total components, reflecting deeper integration of domestic inputs.

Growth in design and embedded systems

In the field of electronics design and embedded systems, the sector recorded 15% growth, increasing the number of specialized local and international companies operating in Egypt to 86. The workforce in this segment reached around 10,000 engineers engaged in electronics and embedded systems design.

As part of its talent development efforts, the ministry said that 6,400 trainees were trained through electronics creativity complexes and laboratories, in addition to 1,300 trainees trained in partnership with international companies. Support was also provided to 57 startups, 100 graduation projects, and five research projects in electronics design and semiconductor technologies.

Expansion of fiber optic cable manufacturing

On the industrial digital infrastructure front, Egypt has significantly expanded its fiber optic cable manufacturing capabilities. The number of manufacturers producing fiber optic cables has increased to four local and international companies, with a combined production capacity of up to 4 million kilometers annually.

The ministry noted that Egypt’s fiber optic cable manufacturing capacity has effectively doubled, strengthening the country’s position in supplying critical infrastructure components for digital transformation projects.

Toward a regional export hub

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology concluded that efforts are ongoing to further deepen local electronics manufacturing and increase the share of Egyptian components. These efforts aim to support Egypt’s ambition to become a regional hub for the manufacturing and export of electronic products starting in 2026 and beyond.
