Egyptian Delegation Explores Regional Best Practices to Accelerate Digital Transformation of the Healthcare Sector

Within the framework of the strategic partnership between the Ministry of Health and Population and eHealth, the Technology for Operating and Managing Health Insurance Services company, a joint initiative was organized to support Egypt’s efforts to accelerate digital transformation across the healthcare sector.
The initiative brought together representatives from key healthcare stakeholders, including the Ministry of Health and Population, the Healthcare Authority, and the General Authority for Healthcare Accreditation and Regulation, as part of a broader national drive to advance digital transformation within the healthcare ecosystem.
As part of these efforts, a delegation from the Ministry of Health and Population conducted an official visit to the United Arab Emirates from December 16 to 18, aimed at benefiting from leading regional and international experiences in digital healthcare transformation. The visit aligns with the Ministry’s vision to enhance the digital transformation of primary healthcare facilities and to build a unified national health information exchange system.
During the first day of the visit, the delegation toured primary healthcare centers in Abu Dhabi, where eHealth showcased a recently acquired digital clinic management solution. The visit highlighted a fully integrated patient journey, starting from patient reception and clinical services to medication dispensing and laboratory testing, presenting an advanced model of patient-centric digital healthcare delivery.
The delegation also reviewed Abu Dhabi’s Health Information Exchange platform “Malaffi,” which serves both public and private healthcare providers and plays a pivotal role in integrating health data, ensuring continuity of care, and improving the quality of healthcare services.
On the sidelines of the visit, a meeting was held with M42, the operator of the Malaffi platform, during which discussions focused on the importance of health data exchange platforms in supporting data-driven healthcare decision-making, preventive disease analysis, quality-of-care enhancement, and progress toward universal health coverage, as well as strengthening data-based public health strategies.
Commenting on the visit, Ibrahim Sarhan, Chairman of eFinance Group, emphasized that international partnerships and knowledge exchange with leading global institutions are key pillars in accelerating digital transformation within Egypt’s healthcare sector. He noted that the visit reflects a strong commitment to supporting the state’s efforts to build a scalable and integrated digital health infrastructure that enhances system efficiency and long-term sustainability.
As part of the strategic partnership between the Ministry of Health and Population and eHealth, the visit also included official meetings with PwC and the Dubai Health Authority, aimed at supporting the Ministry’s efforts to fast-track digital transformation and build a sustainable, patient-centric healthcare system in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030.
During the meeting at PwC’s headquarters, the firm presented its vision for providing advisory services related to Egypt’s healthcare digital transformation strategy, along with an overview of previous digital transformation projects implemented in collaboration with the Egyptian government. PwC also shared insights from its experience in developing and executing Jordan’s national healthcare digital transformation strategy, which focused on enhancing system efficiency and integration among healthcare providers. The discussions further addressed global trends in the use of artificial intelligence in healthcare and its role in improving diagnostics, supporting clinical decision-making, and enhancing patient care quality.
Akram Reda, CEO of eHealth, stated that the visit represents a pivotal step in supporting the Ministry of Health and Population’s efforts to build an integrated, patient-centric digital healthcare system that leverages data and innovation to improve the quality and sustainability of healthcare services. He added that eHealth, through its strategic partnership with eFinance Group and its extensive experience in implementing successful national projects, remains committed to advancing healthcare digital transformation in Egypt. Reda also highlighted discussions around attracting investment into the healthcare sector and strengthening effective public-private partnership models to support sustainable health development goals.
The visit concluded with a meeting at the Dubai Health Authority, where the delegation was introduced to the “NABIDH” digital health platform, which enables the secure exchange of health data among public and private healthcare providers. The platform enhances system integration, improves care delivery efficiency, supports data-driven decision-making, and contributes to a better patient experience and continuity of high-quality care.
The visit reaffirms the commitment of the Ministry of Health and Population and eHealth to adopting global best practices in digital health transformation and to building a more integrated, sustainable, and citizen-centric healthcare system in Egypt, in support of sustainable development goals and Egypt’s Vision 2030.
