The Deputy Minister of Housing holds a meeting to follow up on the needs for pumps for drinking water and sanitation companies.
In accordance with the directives of Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, to increase reliance on locally manufactured products in drinking water and wastewater treatment plants and projects, Dr. Sayed Ismail, Deputy Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, held a meeting to review the pump needs of the water and wastewater companies affiliated with the Holding Company for Water and Wastewater. The meeting was attended by officials from the utilities sector, the Holding Company, the Cairo Water Company, and representatives from the Project Management Unit (PMU).
Dr. Sayed Ismail discussed the pump needs of the Holding Company's subsidiaries with the company representatives, emphasizing the Ministry's commitment to increasing the percentage of locally sourced components in electromechanical equipment used in the drinking water and wastewater sector in general, and pumps in particular, and to implementing local preference.
The Deputy Minister pointed out that the Ministry of Housing's approach, through its affiliated entities, aligns with directives to increase local manufacturing, localize technology, and reduce imports. He emphasized the necessity of forming a high-level committee to govern, monitor, and standardize contracting procedures across all entities within the utilities sector. This aims to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of public spending, support local products, and create a competitive environment for manufacturers in tendered projects.
The Deputy Minister concluded the meeting by affirming the Ministry of Housing's support, through its affiliated entities, for all national manufacturers to meet the electromechanical needs of the drinking water and wastewater utilities sector.
