‏NTRA, ITU Collaborate to Empower Arab Women in Telecom Regulation

Center (EG-ATRC) of the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) organized a training program themed “Empowering Arab Women” on October 27–30, in cooperation with the International Telecommunication Union’s (ITU) Regional Office for the Arab States.

The program brought together 31 trainees from several countries, including Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Sudan, Jordan, Libya, Syria, and Mauritania. It aimed to qualify Arab female professionals to take part in the World Telecommunication Development Conference 2025 (WTDC-25), scheduled to take place in November in Azerbaijan.

Throughout the program, participants explored several key topics, most notably cybersecurity, child online protection, digital transformation, the Internet of Things (IoT), and smart cities, alongside universal service projects.

The program is part of NTRA’s ongoing efforts to build capacities in telecom regulation. It was organized under the strategic partnership between EG-ATRC and ITU, in support of the Network of Women (NOW) in ITU-D in the Arab Region, which is chaired by Egypt.

EG-ATRC, the first center of its kind in Africa, is officially recognized as an ITU Academy Training Centre. It focuses on building the capacities of African telecom regulators and promoting the exchange of expertise in telecom regulation. The Center’s training framework draws on Egypt’s academic and professional knowledge to help regulators address sector challenges and contribute to the development of a strong digital economy.
