Huawei Expands Its Cairo OpenLab to Drive Digital Transformation Across Egypt and North Africa

Huawei announced today a major expansion of its regional research and innovation center, Cairo OpenLab, which has relocated to a new, larger facility within the Huawei Campus at Cairo Festival City. The move marks the lab’s transformation into the largest OpenLab in North Africa, reinforcing Huawei’s commitment to advancing digital transformation and technological innovation across the region.

During a media tour of the new headquarters, Huawei executives showcased the lab’s role in accelerating Egypt’s digitalization journey by integrating cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing into real-world solutions.

The Cairo OpenLab aims to develop scenario-based digital solutions tailored to key sectors, including smart cities, education, energy, healthcare, financial services, and transportation. These efforts contribute to modernizing digital infrastructure and enhancing the efficiency of public and private services alike.

Over 20 Digital Solutions Developed Since 2017

Since its establishment in December 2017 at the Smart Village, Cairo OpenLab has successfully developed more than 20 integrated digital solutions serving both the Egyptian and North African markets. These innovations cover a wide range of applications, from public safety and water management to smart education, advanced healthcare, and smart governance.

A Global Network of 400 Partners

Cairo OpenLab is part of Huawei’s global OpenLab network, which collaborates with over 400 global partners and has developed more than 60 industry solutions across 10 major sectors worldwide. The Cairo center currently serves 28 countries in North Africa, acting as a hub for transferring international expertise and best practices to the region.

Cairo’s Rising Role in Regional Innovation

Huawei’s latest expansion underscores Cairo’s growing position as a regional innovation hub and reflects the company’s long-term commitment to supporting Egypt’s vision of building a sustainable, knowledge-driven digital economy powered by advanced technologies.
