ICT Minister receives the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Telecom Egypt and the new CEO

Today, Dr. Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Lubna Hilal, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Egyptian Telecommunications Company, Engineer Tamer Al-Mahdi, Managing Director and the new CEO of the company, and Engineer Mohamed Nasr El-Din, former CEO of the company.

The Board of Directors of the Telecom Egypt Company held a meeting this morning, during which it approved the appointment of Engineer Tamer Al-Mahdi as Managing Director and CEO of the Company, after thanking Engineer Mohamed Nasruddin and accepting his request for exemption from the position of Managing Director and CEO of the company.

During the meeting, Dr. Amr Talaat stressed that Telecom Egypt plays a vital role in the ICT sector for its active contribution to advancing efforts to achieve digital transformation and develop digital infrastructure at the local and international levels; through the implementation of various strategic projects aimed at enhancing international connectivity through a wide network of marine cables, in addition to supporting the local digital infrastructure through the extension of fiber optic cables throughout the Republic, and participating in the implementation of a number of major national projects, especially the development of digital infrastructure in the villages listed in the presidential initiative "Decent Life".

Dr. Amr Talaat expressed his wishes to Engineer Tamer Al-Mahdi for success in performing the duties of his new position, stressing the importance of building on the achievements achieved during the past period to continue the development process of the company.

Dr. Amr Talaat also thanked Engineer Mohamed Nasr El-Din for his efforts during his tenure of Telecom Egypt, in which the company achieved many steps in its journey towards owning a digital infrastructure and strengthening the international infrastructure of submarine cables, in addition to expanding the provision of a range of services and technological solutions; Expressing his sincere wishes for success and success in his future career.

It is worth mentioning that Engineer Tamer Al-Mahdi was appointed to the Board of Directors of Telecom Egypt as a representative of the Egyptian government in March 2025. With more than 30 years of experience, Engineer Tamer Al-Mahdi has been the founder and chairman of Trade Globe and Terrawaves Networks since 2020, where he oversees global operations in the field of communications consulting, network design and digital infrastructure development. His career includes many executive leadership positions in many multinational companies and investment companies in various sectors such as telecommunications, digital transformation, financial technology, real estate, mining, and non-bank financial services.

From 2014 to 2019, he served as CEO of Orascom Communications, Media and Technology Group (OTMT), where he led the process of strategic transformation and diversification in multiple sectors and regions, including Europe, South Asia and the Middle East. He also served as CEO of Orascom Telecom Algeria (Gezi), Algeria's largest mobile operator, from 2008 to 2013. During his time at Orascom Telecom Holding, he held several key leadership positions, including the Group's Chief Technology Officer (2003-2008), where he managed billion-dollar investments and launched mobile phone launches in Canada, Bangladesh, Iraq and North Korea.

At the beginning of his career, Engineer Tamer Al-Mahdi held leadership positions at AT&T, where he managed large telecommunications infrastructure projects across North Africa.

Eng. Tamer Al-Mahdi holds a Master's degree in International Business Administration from the Maastricht School of Management, a Master's degree in Project Management from George Washington University, a master's degree in electrical and electronic engineering from California State University, and a bachelor's degree in the same field from Cairo University.
