Telecom Egypt Expands International Network with New Point of Presence at Aqaba Digital City

Telecom Egypt, the country’s leading provider of telecommunications and information technology services and one of the region’s largest subsea cable operators, has announced the establishment of a new Point of Presence (PoP) at Aqaba Digital City in Jordan.

The move marks a significant step in extending the company’s international network reach to one of the Middle East’s largest neutral and internationally certified data centers. The new PoP reinforces Telecom Egypt’s commitment to strengthening regional partnerships and accelerating digital transformation across the region.

With global demand for high-capacity data services on the rise, the Aqaba PoP will serve as a vital hub, ensuring seamless data exchange and efficient traffic flow across regional and international networks. This strategic collaboration with Aqaba Digital City will enhance international connectivity, providing enterprises and global content providers with robust, high-capacity infrastructure to support growth in today’s digital economy.

The development follows the successful launch of the Coral Bridge subsea cable system, a 15-kilometer, 1-petabit-capacity system built in partnership with Naetel, the telecommunications arm of Aqaba Digital City. The system links Telecom Egypt’s landing station in Taba, Sinai, with Aqaba Digital City’s data center, laying the foundation for future growth and cooperation.

The activation of the Coral Bridge cable alongside the new Aqaba PoP creates a powerful backbone for international connectivity, enabling advanced services ranging from cloud computing and AI applications to global data transit.

Telecom Egypt reiterated its commitment to investing in its international infrastructure, which includes an extensive subsea cable portfolio and multiple landing stations, to address growing global demand for digital data services.

“The simultaneous launch of our new Point of Presence in Aqaba Digital City and the Coral Bridge cable system represents a milestone in strengthening the Middle East’s digital infrastructure at a time of surging global demand for data services,” said Mohamed Nasr, Managing Director and CEO of Telecom Egypt. “Together, they provide new routes for international data traffic and reinforce our mission to deliver innovative, resilient, and future-ready connectivity solutions.”

Eyad Abu Khorma, Founding CEO of Aqaba Digital City, added: “This collaboration with Telecom Egypt marks a transformative moment for the region. By integrating Egypt’s global subsea network with Aqaba’s neutral landing station and certified data center, we are unlocking new, flexible routes for digital traffic across Jordan, the Middle East, and beyond.”
