Academic Study Reveals Impact of Business Agility on Financial Performance of Telecom Companies in Egypt

A recent doctoral dissertation by researcher Medhat El-Husseiny has highlighted the pivotal role of business agility in enhancing the financial performance of Egyptian telecommunications companies. The study examined three key financial indicators: Return on Assets (ROA), Return on Equity (ROE), and Gross Profit Margin.

The research employed a comprehensive methodology, combining in-depth interviews with industry experts and analysis of financial data extracted from annual company reports. Using logistic regression techniques, the study measured the correlation between business agility and financial performance indicators.

Findings revealed that business agility—reflected in rapid responsiveness to customer needs, operational and virtual integration, and network interoperability—serves as a critical driver for improving returns and increasing profit margins. The study also underscored the importance of strong leadership, a digital-first culture, and strategic partnerships as fundamental pillars that support agility and secure a competitive edge in the market, ultimately benefiting customers.

According to the researcher, these factors collectively contributed to measurable improvements in profitability and financial performance, with a confidence level of 99%, underscoring the reliability and practical significance of the results in the Egyptian market.

On the practical side, the study highlighted that Egyptian telecom operators can translate these findings into actionable strategies to boost competitiveness—whether by optimizing resource utilization or introducing new digital services that rapidly adapt to market shifts. Adopting this model of agility, the study noted, could reduce operating costs, enhance customer satisfaction, expand the subscriber base, and strengthen Egypt’s position as a regional hub for investment in telecommunications and technology.

This research represents a pioneering contribution to telecom studies in Egypt, presenting a novel framework that blends strategic insights with empirical analysis. It paves the way for companies and policymakers to adopt more agile and sustainable practices that enhance competitiveness, drive digital transformation, and advance telecom services.
