Egypt monthly inflation rises in August

The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) announced that Egypt’s nationwide Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose to 257.1 in August 2025, registering a slight monthly increase of 0.2% compared to July.
According to the agency’s statement issued on Wednesday, the annual inflation rate slowed to 11.2% in August, down from 13.1% in July.
This indicates a relative easing in the pace of price increases on a yearly basis, although inflationary pressures continue to affect several goods and services.
The monthly rise was largely driven by increases in the prices of grains and bread by 0.1%, dairy, cheese and eggs by 0.1%, coffee, tea and cocoa by 3.8%, vegetables by 0.1%, oils and fats by 0.8%, mineral water and juices by 0.1%, tobacco by 1.0%, ready-made clothing by 0.9%, and household appliances by 1.4%.
Housing and healthcare also added to the rise, with actual rents increasing by 0.9%, housing maintenance and repair by 0.4%, household goods and services used in maintenance by 1.0%, medical products and equipment by 1.1%, vehicle purchases by 0.7%, prepared meals by 0.4%, and hotel services by 0.6%.
In contrast, a number of groups recorded declines. Prices of meat and poultry fell by 1.3%, fish and seafood by 0.5%, fruits by 0.5%, sugar and confectionery by 0.4%, organized tourism trips by 9.2%, and transportation services by 0.8%.
CAPMAS highlighted that these monthly changes illustrate a mixed movement in prices between essential goods and recreational services.
While upward pressures remain evident in food, housing, and healthcare, declines in certain food items and transport services helped to offset overall inflation dynamics.
