Gold Prices Steady in Egypt After Trump’s Surprise Tariff Move – 21K Holds at EGP 4,620”

Gold prices in Egypt opened Sunday’s trading session steady, following Saturday’s gains that saw the benchmark 21-karat gold settle at EGP 4,620 per gram (approximately USD 95). The price of a gold sovereign reached EGP 36,960.
The latest uptick came after a surprise announcement from U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration on Friday, imposing tariffs on imports of one-kilogram gold bars. The move is part of a broader effort to pressure Switzerland—the world’s largest gold refining hub—with a 39% customs duty.
In recent weeks, gold prices have fluctuated sharply amid uncertainty surrounding Trump’s new tariffs. The yellow metal remains a popular safe-haven asset for Egyptians, particularly against a backdrop of currency volatility and ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
