Egypt’s ICT Ministry and UNICEF Host Digital Citizenship and Online Safety Training in Benha

The Egyptian Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the Qalyubia Governorate, held a two-day training program focused on digital citizenship and online safety at the Misr Public Library in Benha on July 16–17.
The training was part of the Digital Citizenship and Online Protection Initiative, a national campaign led by the Ministry to raise digital awareness, particularly among children, adolescents, parents, and educators. The program was implemented under the framework of the memorandum of understanding signed between MCIT and the Qalyubia Governorate to promote digital empowerment across local communities.
Delivered by the initiative’s coordination and training officers, the content was developed in cooperation with UNICEF. The sessions introduced participants to core concepts of digital citizenship, risks associated with internet use, and effective tools for protection, support, and reporting online abuse.
Interactive activities were also held to help participants identify cyberbullying behaviors, manage screen time effectively, and understand their digital rights and responsibilities. Attendees learned practical strategies for navigating the digital world safely and responsibly.
The initiative continues to expand its community outreach through public libraries, schools, youth centers, and community development hubs across various governorates. By offering educational and training resources, the program aims to equip individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to stay safe online and engage positively in the digital space.
> "This initiative empowers citizens—especially young people—to be informed and responsible digital users,” said a program coordinator. “It is about building a culture of awareness, resilience, and safety in the age of digital transformation.”
In collaboration with UNICEF and other partners, the initiative integrates interactive, age-appropriate training programs to educate children and youth about online threats and promote responsible behavior in digital environments.
