In Japan, ICT Minister Meets JICA President, Officials of Major Electronics Companies to Discuss Collaboration, Investment Opportunities

Concluding his visit to Tokyo, Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat held meetings with officials from major Japanese companies to discuss cooperation opportunities in ICT fields, particularly in electronics design and manufacturing. Discussions focused on attracting more Japanese investments to the Egyptian market and establishing research and development (R&D) centers. The meetings were attended by Ambassador of Egypt to Japan Mohamed Abubakr.
Talaat met with President of Toshiba Development and Engineering Corporation Fumihiko Okaniwa and company officials. The meeting highlighted Toshiba's technologies and its ongoing collaboration with Elaraby Group. Discussions also addressed plans to expand a regional R&D center in partnership with Elaraby Group. Toshiba Development and Engineering Corporation specializes in hardware and software development, multimedia systems, embedded electronics, IoT platforms, and AI-enabled digital products.
The ICT Minister also met with officials from the electronics and smart appliances company Sharp, including Business Coordinator at Sharp for Elaraby Keiji Yamanaka and Vice President of the AIoT Division Masanori Komori. The meeting highlighted the company’s smart technologies in Artificial Intelligence and the Internet of Things (AIoT), along with its ongoing collaboration with Elaraby Group. Discussions also explored potential joint R&D initiatives in smart applications and devices aimed at serving both the European and regional markets from Egypt.
Another meeting was held with officials from global automotive components manufacturer Denso, led by Senior Executive Officer and Head of Legal, Intellectual Property, and Government Affairs Hidehiro Yokoo. They explored opportunities for collaboration in R&D.
The agenda also included a meeting with President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Akihiko Tanaka, attended by Ambassador Abubakr. The discussion focused on enhancing cooperation in digital capacity building, entrepreneurship support, and AI.
The meetings were also attended by CEO of the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) Ahmed Elzaher, Head of the Applied Innovation Center (AIC) Ahmed Tantawy, Director of the Central Department of International Relations at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) Samah Aziz, and Director of the Electronics Industry Program at ITIDA Yasser AbdelBary.
As part of the visit, the Egyptian delegation toured an applied education institute to learn about Japan’s experience in this field.
It is worth noting that the ICT Minister delivered a speech on the Digital Egypt vision at SusHi Tech Tokyo 2025, a flagship international event focused on startups. He also held meetings with the Governor of Tokyo, the Japanese Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications, and officials from innovation hubs, research centers, educational institutions, and Japanese firms to discuss opportunities for cooperation in the ICT sector and attract investment to the Egyptian market.
