Integrating AI into Group Discussions

American company Instinct has announced a new feature allowing users to add its AI agent directly to group chats with friends. This step aims to enable users to collaborate on various daily tasks, such as booking event tickets, planning trips, organizing attendee lists, and scheduling rideshares—transforming group chats into an integrated workspace for making decisions and executing tasks without needing to switch between multiple apps.

Flexible Access and Fierce Market Competition

The new feature allows interaction with the Instinct agent inside group chats, even for individuals who do not own an account on the platform. This move comes amid an intensifying race among AI companies to develop agents capable of performing real-world tasks. Instinct competes with platforms like Meta’s Muse, which has not yet added this feature to group chats, despite older Meta apps (such as WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram) supporting group assistants. Notably, both companies have recently added phone calling capabilities to their AI agents.

Strict Privacy and Security Protocols

The feature relies on a complete separation between the user's personal AI agent and the group version, preventing the group agent from accessing private data. The personal agent requires explicit permission before communicating with the group agent, while users can manage or revoke trusted groups at any time. Security measures also include pausing pending responses from the personal agent if new members join the chat, giving the user a chance to review what gets shared.

Expansion and Investment Outlook

These developments align with a broader trend, with other companies like OpenAI introducing personal AI agents for collaborative spaces. Following its latest funding round, Instinct is valued at approximately $10 billion, reflecting growing investor confidence in consumer AI agents. The group chat feature is currently available to Instinct users in the Early Access program, with a broader rollout planned for all users in the coming period.
