Egypt Reviews Plans for $1.2 Billion Kemet Data Center in Suez Canal Economic Zone
Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Raafat Hindi, held a meeting with Sherif Mohamed Abdel Fattah, Board Member of Intro Holding Group, and an accompanying delegation to discuss the latest implementation plans for the Kemet Data Center project.
The data center is planned to be established in the Integrated Industrial Zone in Ain Sokhna, which falls under the Suez Canal Economic Zone, with the aim of providing advanced services in cloud computing, Internet of Things (IoT), and digital transformation.
Intro Holding Group plans to develop Kemet as a Tier III data center, positioning it as a major digital infrastructure facility for large companies requiring advanced cloud and data-processing capabilities.
The project is expected to reach a total capacity of 80 MW, with investments of approximately $270 million allocated to its first phase. The overall investment value for the project is estimated at $1.2 billion.
During the meeting, Hindi highlighted the Ministry’s efforts to create an attractive environment for investments in Egypt’s data center industry and encourage private-sector companies to develop facilities that comply with international standards.
He also noted that Egypt has competitive advantages that can support the expansion of the data center sector, which plays an important role in accelerating digital transformation, expanding cloud services, and meeting the growing demand for data hosting and processing.
The meeting also reviewed the ministry’s initiatives to encourage investments in data centers and cloud computing infrastructure, as part of efforts to strengthen Egypt’s position as a regional hub for data center services.
Officials discussed the project’s implementation progress, including completed engineering designs, agreements signed with suppliers for the required equipment and systems, as well as the targeted timeline for construction and the launch of the center’s services.
The meeting was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, including senior officials responsible for resources, technical assistance, technology projects, outsourcing, communications affairs, and smart solutions. MP Ahmed Badawy, Chairman of the Communications and Information Technology Committee at the House of Representatives, also attended the meeting.
