Huawei Cloud Turns AI Coding Into a 16-Agent Engineering Team Across Asia Pacific
Huawei Cloud is taking its AI coding push beyond autocomplete and code generation, commercially launching CodeArts Agent across Asia Pacific with a team of specialized AI agents designed to handle tasks spanning requirements, architecture, development, testing and code review.
CodeArts Agent became generally available to Huawei Cloud’s international users across Asia Pacific on Friday, with both its Basic and Professional editions moving out of public beta and into commercial availability.
The rollout marks the latest stage in Huawei Cloud’s attempt to bring agentic AI deeper into enterprise software development, where the next competitive battleground is increasingly shifting from AI tools that assist programmers with individual lines of code to agents capable of understanding projects and executing longer, more complex engineering tasks.
One coding assistant becomes a team of 16 agents
The standout capability is Agent Team, which brings together 16 specialized AI agents covering different stages of the software development lifecycle.
Their roles extend from requirements analysis and architecture design to coding, testing, issue resolution and code review.
Rather than requiring developers to direct every individual action, Huawei says the agents can collaborate in a way designed to resemble a professional engineering team, autonomously planning and carrying out complex development tasks that may run for extended periods.
That represents a considerable step beyond the first generation of AI coding assistants.
CodeArts Agent still provides familiar capabilities including code generation, software engineering Q&A and automated unit-test generation, but Huawei is increasingly positioning those functions as pieces of a broader autonomous development workflow rather than the product’s main purpose.
Huawei turns its own engineering experience into AI skills
Huawei is also using decades of internal software development experience as part of the product.
CodeArts Agent includes more than 30 reusable Huawei engineering skills, alongside specification-driven development capabilities intended to translate developer intent into structured requirements, designs and development tasks.
The approach is aimed particularly at enterprise environments, where generating working code is only one part of the development process.
Software also needs to conform to architectural requirements, internal standards, security policies, testing procedures and existing systems — areas where autonomous coding agents need considerably more project context than a conventional code-completion tool.
It can navigate tens of millions of lines of existing code
Another focus is understanding software that already exists.
Huawei says CodeArts Agent can retrieve and understand code across repositories containing tens of millions of lines, allowing its agents to gain enough context to work on incremental development and updates to large existing systems.
That capability matters for large companies because most enterprise developers are not starting applications from an empty screen.
They are maintaining and extending software built over years, often across large codebases involving different teams, architectures and dependencies.
CodeArts Agent uses techniques including code slicing and retrieval-augmented generation to locate relevant information and provide the AI with the context required for a development task.
Developers do not have to abandon their existing tools
Huawei is also avoiding a strategy that forces every developer into a single programming environment.
CodeArts Agent can be accessed through its AI-native IDE, development plugins and command-line or text-based interfaces, allowing companies to introduce agents into different existing workflows.
A Visual Studio Code extension is available for international users, for example, enabling developers to access CodeArts Agent from within Microsoft’s widely used development environment.
Enterprise controls become more extensive with the Professional edition, including operation logs, model management, support for enterprise custom models, usage management and single sign-on.
Huawei Cloud currently lists the international Basic edition at $20 per seat per month, including 40 million tokens per seat each month and 5 GB of knowledge space.
The Professional edition is listed at $60 per seat per month, with 150 million tokens per seat, 20 GB of knowledge space and support for as many as 1,000 seats.
Thailand provided an early test
The Asia-Pacific commercial launch follows a series of regional trials.
Huawei Cloud launched open beta testing for CodeArts Agent in Thailand in July during the Huawei Cloud Summit Thailand 2026, alongside a wider package of agentic AI infrastructure services.
That launch gave local developers and enterprises access to the coding agent ahead of the broader commercial rollout.
Huawei Cloud formally scheduled CodeArts Agent for commercial availability on August 26, noting that existing users would not see pricing changes as the service moved into its commercial phase.
The wider Asia-Pacific announcement on August 28 now takes the Basic and Professional editions into general availability for international Huawei Cloud customers across the region.
The coding race is moving from copilots to coworkers
CodeArts Agent enters an increasingly crowded market for AI software development tools, but Huawei’s 16-agent structure illustrates how quickly the category itself is changing.
The first wave of AI coding products largely focused on predicting the next line of code, generating functions or answering programming questions.
The emerging generation is being built to understand entire projects, break objectives into smaller tasks, plan how those tasks should be completed and coordinate multiple specialized agents to execute them.
For enterprise developers, that could gradually change the relationship with AI from asking a coding assistant for help to supervising a collection of digital engineering agents.
Huawei Cloud’s Asia-Pacific rollout is its attempt to make that transition commercially available now — and to turn CodeArts Agent from an experimental coding assistant into part of the everyday software development stack.
