Federation of Egyptian Industries Hosts Seminar to Scale Up Standardized LED Bulb Manufacturing and Energy Efficiency

The Electrical Tools and Cables Division, alongside LED bulb manufacturers within the Chamber of Engineering Industries at the Federation of Egyptian Industries (FEI), convened an introductory seminar focused on energy efficiency regulations and the strategic expansion of standardized LED bulb manufacturing in Egypt.

Chaired by Mohamed El-Mohandes, Head of the Chamber of Engineering Industries, the session aimed to align industrial output with national energy conservation directives and address the operational hurdles faced by local manufacturers.

The high-level meeting saw participation from key regulatory and industrial figures, including:

  • Abdullah Zeidan: Head of the Electrical Tools and Cables Division.
  • Dr. Khaled Soufi: Chairman of the Egyptian Organization for Standardization and Quality (EOS).
  • Maj. Gen. Ihab Amin: Chairman of the Industrial Control Authority (ICA).
  • Maj. Gen. Wael El-Nogoumi: Head of the Central Administration of Laboratories at the General Organization for Export and Import Control (GOEIC).
  • Eng. Abdel Sadek Ahmed: Technical Advisor to the Engineering Chamber.

Navigating Production Challenges and Compliance

The discussions highlighted the administrative and technical challenges manufacturers face when navigating the testing procedures required to obtain Energy Efficiency Labels. Participants addressed the complexities arising from the overlapping requirements of multiple regulatory bodies.

The table below summarizes the core operational challenges discussed and the resulting strategic protocols:

Strategic Focus Challenges & Recommended Protocols
Current Challenges Manufacturers face difficulties navigating the multiplicity of conditions and tests required by various authorities to secure Energy Efficiency Labels.
Pre-Production Protocol Manufacturers are now strongly advised to produce and submit a prototype for specialized testing prior to initiating mass production. This ensures full compliance with technical specifications and prevents costly retroactive modifications.
Final Recommendation Compiling and republishing a unified guide of all conditions, licenses, and testing requirements from all concerned authorities. This guide will be distributed to Chamber members to ensure preemptive awareness of all regulatory steps before production begins.

Leadership Directives on Energy Conservation

Addressing the attendees, Mohamed El-Mohandes emphasized that the Chamber is deploying its full technical resources to support this initiative, framing it as a critical national priority amid global economic shifts.

"The objective of this seminar is to drive the transition toward rationalizing energy consumption in all its forms by enforcing standard specifications for manufacturing energy-saving LED bulbs. The Chamber directs its full technical support to this vital file, which is fundamentally a state directive designed to conserve energy amidst a global economic climate and tensions that impact energy and fuel prices," stated El-Mohandes.
