Facebook Launches Standalone Seller App as Marketplace Tops 430 Million Monthly Listings
Facebook has introduced Seller, a standalone mobile application designed specifically for Marketplace merchants, marking one of the platform's biggest commerce updates in years as Marketplace surpasses 430 million new listings every month worldwide.
The new app separates selling tools from Facebook's main application, allowing frequent sellers to manage listings, communicate with buyers and monitor sales activity through a dedicated interface. Existing Marketplace listings, conversations and sales history are automatically synchronized, enabling users to continue managing their businesses without interruption.
Seller also introduces a range of AI-powered features aimed at simplifying the selling process. Users can generate product listings from photos, organize inventory, access a unified inbox for buyer communications and track performance metrics such as views, clicks and completed sales, helping merchants better understand customer engagement.
Meta is pairing the launch with a new free identity verification system for Marketplace users. The selfie-based verification badge is intended to strengthen trust between buyers and sellers by confirming user identities without requiring a paid subscription, complementing the company's broader efforts to improve safety across its commerce ecosystem.
The Seller app is initially available on iOS for users in the United States aged 18 and older, while Android and web versions are currently being tested. Meta said the launch reflects the growing importance of Marketplace, which has evolved into one of Facebook's largest commerce services since its debut a decade ago and continues to attract younger users seeking local buying and selling opportunities.
