Ministers of Planning and Youth Discuss Executive Framework for ”Youth Economy” Initiative to Drive Local Development
Dr. Ahmed Rostom, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, and Gohar Nabil, Minister of Youth and Sports, recently held a strategic meeting to finalize the executive mechanisms for the upcoming "Youth Economy" project. The initiative is designed to harness the energy of Egyptian youth, translating it into active contributions to state development in direct alignment with the government's action plan under "Egypt Vision 2030."
Data-Driven Strategy and Institutional Support
Dr. Rostom emphasized that the Ministry of Planning is fully prepared to provide comprehensive support for the project. By leveraging accurate, continuously updated databases from the "Decent Life" (Hayah Karima) initiative and collaborating with the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS), the government will precisely map and utilize the comparative economic advantages of each governorate.
To ensure the initiative's operational success, several key national entities have been assigned specific strategic roles:
Participating EntityStrategic Role in the 'Youth Economy' Initiative
Ministry of Planning & CAPMASSupplying precise demographic and economic data to identify the competitive advantages of each governorate.
NI Capital & NI ConsultationsActing as strategic financial arms to manage portfolios and provide technical consulting.
Egypt Center for EntrepreneurshipDriving capacity building, promoting freelance frameworks, and supporting startups across all growth stages.
Ministry of Youth and SportsTransforming existing state facilities into active economic, investment, and community hubs.
Maximizing State Assets
Minister Gohar Nabil described the initiative as an ambitious national project that hinges on seamless inter-ministerial integration. A core pillar of the Ministry of Youth and Sports' strategy is the transformation of its fixed assets—such as youth centers, sports development facilities, and youth cities—from traditional service buildings into profitable economic institutions.
This innovative approach to asset management is expected to significantly reduce the financial burden on the state budget while fostering local economic activity.
Implementation Phases and Developmental Goals
The "Youth Economy" initiative will be executed through a structured, multi-phase rollout:
Institutional Preparation & Mapping: Creating a national map of competitive advantages and identifying promising labor market sectors.
Pilot Phase: Launching the initiative in a select number of test governorates.
Nationwide Expansion: Scaling the project across the entire republic, supported by a newly established national database and digital dashboard to track performance metrics and support decision-making.
Ultimately, the initiative aims to serve as a vital platform for the green and digital economies. By linking youth directly with investors and funding agencies, the project targets massive developmental returns, including achieving spatial justice in investment distribution, curbing internal migration, and reinforcing broad social stability.
