The corporate shake-up, which includes dissolving its traditional Senior Leadership Team (SLT) in favor of agile, horizontal units, is engineered to maintain market dominance amid intensifying global competition over generative artificial intelligence and hyper-scale cloud computing infrastructure.

Under the new operational strategy enacted by Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella, the tech giant is moving away from sprawling, semi-autonomous divisions. The restructuring is designed to centralize decision-making, remove bureaucratic layers, and accelerate product shipping cycles as the enterprise shifts from a legacy software-first business model to an AI-first computing system.

This structural overhaul coincides with significant executive transitions and a generational shift within Microsoft's senior ranks. Rajesh Jha, a 35-year veteran and Executive Vice President of the Experiences + Devices Group, will officially step down into an advisory role on July 1, 2026.
