Egypt’s Mobile Connectivity Hits New Heights: 7.9 Million New Users Join the Digital Economy in 2026
The National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) has reported a robust 12% increase in mobile internet usage across Egypt for the year 2026. This growth is accompanied by a significant expansion of the user base, with approximately 7.9 million new subscribers accessing mobile data services for the first time. The data underscores a deepening reliance on smartphone technology as the primary driver for digital engagement, ranging from e-government services to mobile commerce.
Industry experts attribute this surge to the strategic expansion of 4G and 5G networks into rural and underserved areas, coupled with the increasing affordability of entry-level smartphones. The NTRA noted that the surge in users has prompted major telecom operators to accelerate infrastructure investments to maintain service quality and handle the unprecedented spike in data traffic. This expansion is viewed as a vital pillar of Egypt’s "Vision 2030" goals for a fully integrated digital society.
