Meta and Broadcom Forge Multi-Generation Partnership to Power ”Super-Personal Intelligence” via Custom AI Silicon

Meta has significantly expanded its strategic partnership with Broadcom to develop multiple generations of custom AI chips, specifically the Meta Training and Inference Accelerator (MTIA). This collaboration aims to bolster Meta’s high-scale inference and recommendation systems across its global app ecosystem. Leveraging Broadcom’s XPU platform and advanced Ethernet networking technologies, the partnership focuses on building a massive computing base capable of supporting real-world AI applications for billions of users.

A key highlight of the agreement is the commitment to scale power infrastructure, starting with over 1 Gigawatt (GW) in the initial phase, with plans to expand to multiple Gigawatts in the future. CEO Mark Zuckerberg noted that this collaboration—which spans chip design, advanced packaging, and networking—is critical for processing complex AI models with maximum efficiency. As part of this transition, Broadcom CEO Hock Tan will move from Meta’s board to a strategic advisory role to focus exclusively on the long-term roadmap for Meta’s AI infrastructure.
