EUI Researcher Triumphs Globally, Secures Prestigious SCOSTEP Grant for Space Physics Research in Japan

In a significant milestone for Egypt’s scientific community, Radi Mahmoud, a teaching assistant at the Egypt University of Informatics (EUI), has been awarded the 2026 SCOSTEP Visiting Scholar (SVS) grant. Competing against elite researchers from the USA, China, Germany, and India, Mahmoud’s research proposal received the highest evaluation from the international review committee, placing him among only 19 researchers selected worldwide this year.

The grant, sponsored by the Scientific Committee on Solar-Terrestrial Physics (SCOSTEP)—a body of the International Science Council (ISC)—will fund Mahmoud’s three-month research residency at Nagoya University in Japan. Working at the Institute for Space-Earth Environmental Research (ISEE), he will focus on developing advanced spectral analysis methods for All-Sky Imagers. His research aims to revolutionize the detection of Atmospheric Gravity Waves in the mesosphere and ionosphere by integrating applied physics with Artificial Intelligence, enhancing our understanding of energy transfer mechanisms in the upper atmosphere.
