Egypt’s Telecom Regulator Takes Steps to Enhance Service Quality and Simplify Mobile Number Portability
The National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) has implemented a series of measures aimed at improving telecom service quality and facilitating mobile number portability across operators in Egypt.
Among the initiatives is the signing of the largest spectrum deal in the history of Egypt’s telecom sector, as part of the national spectrum strategy for 2026–2030. The move is expected to significantly enhance internet services and boost overall network efficiency.
The NTRA has also conducted field inspections to improve telecom services in tourist facilities in Hurghada, in coordination with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities. In addition, 317 new coverage stations were approved during the fourth quarter of 2025 to expand network reach and strengthen service availability.
In a related context, the regulator clarified the steps for mobile number portability, allowing users to switch operators while retaining the same number. The process involves visiting the new operator, submitting the required documents, and receiving a new SIM card. Number transfer is completed within 24 hours, provided that all conditions are met, including settling any outstanding financial obligations and maintaining ownership of the line for at least four months.
