ITIDA Launches National Software Testing Competition to Spur Innovation and Industry Excellence

The Software Engineering Competence Center (SECC), the technical and knowledge arm of Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA), has officially announced the launch and opening of registration for the Software Testing Competition, organized as part of the fourth edition of Software Testing Day.

The competition is designed to stimulate innovative and practical solutions that address real-world challenges in software testing and quality assurance, reinforcing Egypt’s growing position in the global software and digital services landscape.

This initiative comes in line with ITIDA’s ongoing efforts to enhance the competitiveness of Egypt’s software industry, strengthen specialized technical skills, and support the development of advanced digital solutions capable of competing in regional and international markets. The competition also reflects the agency’s broader commitment to building a knowledge-based digital economy through innovation and skills development.

Participation is open to undergraduate students and industry professionals, including software testers and developers. Participants are invited to submit original ideas that tackle practical software testing challenges across a wide range of focus areas. These include automated test-case generation, automated test scripting, defect reporting and root-cause analysis, synthetic test-data generation, test execution scheduling and prioritization, self-healing automation scripts, and other innovative approaches aimed at improving software quality, efficiency, and reliability.

Teams may consist of up to five members, with each participant allowed to join only one team and each team permitted to submit a single idea. All teams must participate independently, without representing any organization, company, or entity. Participants are also required to comply with ethical and professional standards when selecting team names and defining the scope of their submissions, ensuring a fair, responsible, and competitive innovation environment.

Accepted teams will be notified on February 15, after which they will move into the development phase, transforming their ideas into prototypes or fully integrated software solutions between April 5 and May 7. The final three winners will be announced on May 11 during Software Testing Day, where shortlisted teams will present their final prototypes or software solutions before an international jury panel. All presentations and supporting materials must be delivered in English to ensure consistency, transparency, and standardized evaluation.

In line with the highest standards of integrity, participants must confirm that their submitted ideas have not previously won any similar competitions and are not commercial products currently available or planned for market release. Any submission that violates professional conduct rules or involves discrimination, abuse, or unethical behavior will be subject to immediate disqualification.

Established in 2001, the Software Engineering Competence Center continues to play a pivotal role in supporting the growth of Egypt’s software industry. Operating as an internationally accredited center of excellence, SECC provides technical consultancy and certification services that help software companies enhance development processes and adopt global software engineering standards.

The deadline for applications is February 5.
