Egypt Secures Leadership Positions in ITU-D at WTDC-25

Egypt, represented by the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA), has secured several leadership positions in the Telecommunication Development Sector of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU-D) during the World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC-25), held on November 17–28 in Baku, Azerbaijan, under the theme “Universal, Meaningful, and Affordable Connectivity for an Inclusive and Sustainable Digital Future.”

Egypt obtained the chairmanship of Study Group 2 (SG2) on Digital Transformation and the position of Vice-Chair of SG1 on Enabling Environment for Meaningful Connectivity. In addition, the country won the position of Vice-Chair of the Telecommunication Development Advisory Group (TDAG).

During the conference, ITU also selected NTRA experts to chair two subcommittees: the AdHoc Group of Committee 3 on Network and Infrastructure (AD3) and the AdHoc Group of Committee 3 on Digital Transformation and Innovation (AD7).

It is worth noting that Egypt is the only ITU member that chairs a study group in each ITU sector as well as the General Secretariat. The country chairs SG1 in the Radiocommunication Sector (ITU-R), SG3 in the Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T), and SG2 in ITU-D, alongside leading the Expert Group on the International Telecommunication Regulations (EG-ITRs).
