DIGITOPIA Finalists Compete for Multi-Million-Pound Prizes This Weekend

The spotlight turns to the Digital Egypt Innovation Center in Giza this Friday and Saturday as the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology hosts the final stage of the inaugural edition of “DIGITOPIA,” the largest nationwide competition dedicated to digital creativity and technological innovation. A total of 72 teams, comprising more than 300 competitors from across Egypt, have advanced to the final round where they will present digital solutions aimed at addressing societal challenges and boosting the role of technology in community development.

Dr Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, will attend the closing ceremony on Saturday evening to announce the winners, who will receive financial awards totaling more than EGP 10 million, including a grand prize of EGP 1 million. The competition’s substantial prize pool reflects the ministry’s commitment to nurturing exceptional digital talent and encouraging sustained innovation among young creators.

The final evaluations will span three main tracks: Software and Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, and Digital Games and Arts. The top three teams in each age category will be selected following two days of intensive judging by a panel of more than 90 experts in digital technologies and innovation.

Since its launch, DIGITOPIA has seen remarkable nationwide engagement, attracting over 25,000 innovators who formed 6,500 teams from all governorates. The competition’s third phase also witnessed strong participation, with more than 700 teams working over three weeks to transform their preliminary ideas into fully developed technological solutions, supported by a series of technical mentoring sessions delivered by industry specialists.

The competition brings together participants from diverse age groups, ranging from pre-university students to undergraduates, recent graduates and aspiring entrepreneurs. The categories were symbolically named to reflect the nature of each group’s contribution, including Impact Explorer, Impact Maker, Impact Innovator and Impact Leader, highlighting the scientific and geographic diversity of the participants.

DIGITOPIA is held under the supervision of the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA), the National Telecommunication Institute, the Information Technology Institute and Egypt University of Informatics, with the support of international and local partners including UNDP, Huawei Technologies Egypt, Cisco Egypt, IT Valley, Telecom Egypt WE, Vodafone Egypt, Orange Egypt, e& Egypt, ICT Egypt, WE Innovate, EYouth and YAT Learning Solutions.
